Too much time for thinking is my problem :D just wondering if they have tried to salvage some of the DL R&D by using its main componants for the new P900, the DL was dropped due to a circuit board over heating, if this was a 4k from 1 inch sensor thing it may not get as hot 1/2.3".
When it was dropped they could have had a large inventory of DL parts in stock.

Jury is still out in my opinion. Near max zoom on the P900 things aren't nice. What will the P1000 provide? The same lack luster at full zoom? Hot shoe on a camera meant to reach out and tickle the stars, why? If it is meant for a red light target device. Then I guess that is good. Though, this is not a telescope. And should not be treated as such IMHO.Sounds to me like they are trying way to hard for a "all-in-one rig". But, I'm waiting to be proved wrong. If I'm wrong. Then I'll be in line waiting to buy one. After there has been real world use and tests of course.

I found just the opposite with it at full zoom, the only thing that kiled IQ for me was atmospheric contamination over longer distances, used at full zoom over short to medium distances i had no complaint.

Some full zoom over medium distances

When you consider the small sensor size i felt it was a decent camera

I agree with that at short range, the full zoom isn't bad.

Ime not bothered about a lot more zoom i would like to see a more active focus system for some action captures and a manual zoom ring to speed framing up.
